About
I'm Andrew January. I'm currently studying Computer Science at York University, but how did I get here?
I started out programming on a ZX Spectrum filling the screen with coloured squares. With the acquirement of a PC I later moved on to Delphi, revelling in the drag-and-drop form designer.
Having been making maps for a few years in a little known game called Half-Life I turned my hand to making full modifications for it by programming in C++ and for the next few years spent my time in both languages.
Frustrated at the out-datedness of the old version of the Delphi programming environment I was using I began hunting for a new version, and stumbled across Borland C# Builder and fell in love with a new language, C#.
Eventually I became annoyed by the bugs in Borland's tools and found Microsoft's Visual Studio C# Express and have been taking advantage of their desire to hook students into their eco-system ever since.
Not that I've been focusing entirely on the Microsoft toolset mind you. I have developed a passion for language design, which has led me to investigate other languages such as Python, Scheme and Smalltalk.
Aside from programming my technical interests include interface design and gaming, being a big fan of the afore-mentioned Half-Life series.
I'm also big into comedy and try as hard as I can to see good stand-up. Little is better than a good chuckle.
